Many women experience back and neck problems during their pregnancy and also following giving birth.
Many women ask “Can I visit a chiropractor while I’m pregnant”? The answer is an overall yes! Chiropractic care can help tremendously in these situations and is very safe when receiving treatment.
Due to changes in the female body during pregnancy, women often experience lower back pain with sciatic like symptoms (pain radiating into the upper buttock and the back of the leg) and facet pain even carpal tunnel like symptoms.
This typically happens on one side only and although it can happen at any time during the pregnancy, the condition usually presents itself around month six or seven. This is extremely common and can be helped significantly through specific muscle work techniques and gentle chiropractic adjustments.
Dr. Tirado has a special table that allows the abdominal piece to drop down so there is no pressure on theĀ belly. This allows a pregnant woman to comfortably lie face down while these procedures are performed. Of course, low back pain is not the only problem pregnant women encounter. We often treat neck and upper back pain as well. Either way, pregnant women are treated with special, gentle care that will not cause harm to your baby.
Post Natal: It is not uncommon for a woman to return to us post natal with new complaints of neck pain, upper back pain, even shoulder pain and headaches. Of course, low back pain may linger, but we typically see the other mentioned complaints because you are now doing many new things, often without much sleep.
You are now carrying your infant around, lifting him or her often, leaning over a crib to pick him or her up, bending over to change a diaper, breast feeding, etc. Never mind the stress of having to take care of your baby, all on small amounts of interrupted sleep. All of this tends to cause tension in the muscles and joints of your neck and back. Dr. Tirado successfully treats these problems with great success and patient comfort.
Our office is extremely baby friendly, so do not worry about bringing your infant or even toddler with you for a visit.
