If you’re reading this while sitting down you might want to stand up so as to avoid sitting disease!
The American Medical Association (AMA) adopted policy recognizing potential risks of prolonged sitting and encourage making alternatives to sitting available, such as standing work stations or adjustable desks.
People usually need help avoiding “excessive sitting times”; good intentions are not enough. So why not incorporate devices into your routines that are designed to encourage you to sit OR stand? A study (@ CDC.gov) shows these products are effective in reducing prolonged sitting.
Standing all day may not be practical, which is why a sit-stand device is ideal—feel free to sit and then get up and stretch every half hour, stand while on the phone, or stand during the exciting parts of a movie.
Practically speaking, some solutions won’t be as effective: For example, electric motor-driven sit-stand desks are slow to adjust, which means you’ll be less inclined to change your position.
